In March 2026 a devastating fire destroyed Union Corner, a 175-year-old category B listed building in the heart of Glasgow city centre, directly next to Central Station. It made international news overnight. Dozens of independent businesses lost their premises and everything inside them. Transcendental Meditation Glasgow, a local charity, was among them.

The situation

With their physical base gone, TM Glasgow faced an immediate dual challenge: keeping their community together and finding a way to turn an international news story into something that could actually help them rebuild. Every hour counted.

What Smiddy Marketing delivered

Glasgow is home. When the fire broke out, stepping in felt like the only right thing to do. The morning after, a post went out on Instagram offering free marketing help to any of the businesses affected. TM Glasgow got in touch almost immediately. The first job was to help them think clearly across short, medium, and longer-term priorities, and to build a plan that communicated directly to their community and the wider Glasgow audience exactly how people could help.

A JustGiving campaign was set up and promoted straight away. Guidance was provided on social media posts and newsletters to keep their community informed and engaged. My considerable network of Glasgow contacts was opened up to tap into wider community support, identifying practical resources including offers of replacement equipment and other available funding sources. Media and podcast coverage was secured across Glasgow and beyond. Temporary premises were sourced by Smiddy Marketing so they could get back to putting on events almost straight away.

What it unlocked

Over £15,000 raised within days. New temporary premises found and operational. Events back up and running within two weeks of the fire. Positive media coverage secured from what could have stayed only a story of loss.
